Job Description

The NPower SkillBridge Career Placement Manager works exclusively with our student population of transitioning active duty service members; and is responsible for securing employment opportunities for NPower’s SkillBridge program graduates, matching qualified graduates with tech jobs in the public and private IT sectors. Our goal is 90% placement for all of our graduates. We are looking for someone who can manage both external business development and internal mentor and advisory duties.

The Career Placement Manager will be responsible for sustaining relationships with existing employer partners, while developing relationships with new employers. This includes a wide range of companies and representatives from the IT and Cybersecurity arena. This person will be able to successfully place NPower SkillBridge participants into jobs and provide ongoing retention services to support both the employer and the NPower graduate. This position requires someone that has experience in workforce development and/or career counseling.

This position is a build-out position for the west coast, occasional evenings or weekends and potentially some travel will be required. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, who works well in a team environment, committed to outcomes and is mission driven. You must be able to understand the culture and communicate effectively within the military community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Transition Assistance:
  • Help active-duty service members and veterans navigate the transition from military to civilian careers. This includes offering guidance on how to translate military experience into civilian job skills and preparing for the civilian job market.
  1. Resume Writing and Interview Preparation:
  • Assist service members in creating resumes that highlight their military skills and experience in ways that are appealing to civilian employers. Offer mock interview sessions tailored to translating military experiences into relevant job qualifications.
  1. Job Matching and Placement:
  • Partner with employers, government agencies, and organizations to identify career opportunities suitable for military personnel. This involves developing strong relationships with civilian companies interested in hiring veterans or transitioning military members.
  1. Career Counseling and Development:
  • Provide career advice based on individual skills, interests, and long-term goals. This could involve offering options for further education, skills development, or potential military promotions.
  1. Employer Outreach:
  • Establish partnerships with employers who are interested in hiring veterans, advocating for hiring initiatives, and organizing career fairs or job placement events specifically aimed at military personnel.
  1. Support Services:
  • Coordinate additional support services, such as financial counseling, relocation assistance, or access to veteran benefits.
  1. Workshops and Training:
  • Organize workshops to teach veterans soft skills (e.g., communication, leadership, and teamwork) or provide industry-specific training that may improve employability in the civilian workforce.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong Communication Skills : Ability to interact with both military personnel and civilian employers, tailoring advice and information for each audience.
  • Understanding of Military Culture : Familiarity with military terminology, rank structure, and how to translate military experience into civilian job skills.
  • Networking Abilities : Ability to build partnerships with a range of employers interested in hiring military members.
  • Problem-Solving Skills : Helping individuals overcome challenges related to job placement, such as gaps in civilian work experience or adjusting to civilian work culture.
  • Team Oriented and Outcome Driven : We work as a team, and are results oriented.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years’ experience in workforce development or account management.
  • Prior experience working with transitioning service members and/or veterans.
  • Demonstrated experience meeting goals in a performance-driven setting.
  • Superior communication skills, ability to engage a wide range of constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptional sales skills with a demonstrated ability to generate leads, close deals and deliver results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Salesforce and online sourcing tools.
