To be considered for an entry-level firefighter position at our agency, you must pass the FireTEAM written exam administered by National Testing Network (NTN). You also need to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). These tests are conducted by NTN, search for our job posting on the NTN website to begin your testing process or submit your current NTN & CPAT scores to our agency.

You MUST have a current CPAT within twelve (12) months of the application closing date OR complete a 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes (proctored by Redmond Fire personnel) to be considered for employment. Proof of your valid CPAT certificate or indication of intent to do the 1.5 mile run will be managed later in the application process, once you pass the FireTEAM test.

Candidates who do not provide a current CPAT OR indicate intent to do the 1.5 mile run or do not complete the NTN PHQ during the application process will be disqualified.

Qualifying applicants that submit passing FireTEAM test scores and a PHQ to Redmond will be invited to complete a City of Redmond employment application. This application requires attachment of your valid CPAT certificate, or indication of 1.5 mile run intention. Candidates meeting all qualifications may be asked to schedule a first-round interview via Teams in early June. In person second-round interviews are schedule in late June for those that pass the first round interview.

The City of Redmond Fire Department has more than 165 dedicated employees providing fire and life safety services to the City of Redmond and King County Fire District 34. Line personnel, who are covered by the Redmond Firefighters Union #2829, I.A.F.F., work a 48/96 schedule (two days on and four days off), and all Firefighters are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). Redmond Fire is one of five Paramedic service providers in King County. After completing probation, Redmond Firefighter/EMTs who meet the minimum qualifications have the opportunity to participate in a selection process to become a certified King County Paramedic.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions:

Each of the following duties is an implied ability.

1. Uses any and all firefighting equipment as appropriate to extinguish fires in buildings, grass, terrain, automobiles, or other situations that may involve oil, chemicals, electrical, or other flammable or combustible materials or origins.

2. Responds to various hazardous environments wearing breathing apparatus and using specialized tools and equipment to save lives, protect property, suppress fires, and administer first aid to the sick and injured.

3. Drives aid, ALS, engine, aerial ladder, and/or rescue vehicles as qualified and appropriate for the incident and transports patients to hospital or other medical facility.

4. Prepares and maintains reports and records within assigned areas of responsibility.

5. Responds to various service calls providing assistance to citizens in situations that are not life threatening, such as flooded basements and burning complaints.

6. May be assigned as a member of the Hazardous Materials Team, the Fire Prevention Division, or a Firefighter/Paramedic.

7. Conducts tours of facilities, apparatus, and equipment.

8. Performs special assignments such as coordinating CPR classes available to the public, preparing written or graphic materials for the Department, entering data into the computer, serving on the safety committee, or assisting with budget preparation.

9. Periodically tests facility, equipment, apparatus, and fire protection systems and maintains records of test information.

10. Researches, compiles, organizes and presents information on assigned topics at training sessions.

11. Performs fire safety inspections to ensure that buildings comply with fire codes and issue warning citations.

12. Performs post-fire clean-up and salvage work.

13. Assists in the emergency treatment or care of ill or injured patients; may use intravenous therapy, drug therapy, respiratory therapy, manual or automatic defibrillator, or other equipment or procedures to provide emergency medical care.

14. Develop pre-fire plans, information, and drawings to prepare for emergency service to specific locations within the jurisdictions.

15. Completes detailed reports for use by hospital personnel as an aid in patient assessment and treatment.

16. Performs other assignments as governed by the Department's Standard Operating Guidelines and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

17. Provides information and training to support personnel as assigned.

18. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly checks and routine maintenance for all facilities, apparatus, and equipment.

19. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of classification and level of training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

· 18 years of age.

· High School Graduate/GED.

· Must meet required medical and physical agility standards and all civil service requirements.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

· Possess a valid driver's license upon hire.

· Emergency Medical Technician certification is required within 18 months of employment and shall be maintained as per the union contract.

· Applicants claiming veterans' preference must submit a DD214 form or documentation of active or reserved duty status at the time of their application.

· Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention Program (E.V.I.P.P.).

Special Qualifications:

Firefighters operate motor vehicles and are required to present a valid driver's license with any necessary endorsements. Applicants' driving records are checked.

Applicants are disqualified under the following circumstances:

· More than two (2) moving traffic violations within the preceding three (3) years; or reckless or negligent driving violation within the preceding five (5) years; or driving while intoxicated within the preceding ten (ten) years.

· More than one (1) motor vehicle accident within the preceding three (3) years for which the applicant received a traffic or criminal citation and was convicted, forfeited bail, or entered a plea of "guilty" or "nolo contendre".

· Felony convictions or serious convictions of Federal, State, City, or County laws.

· Been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces.

SELECTION PROCESS

Round 1 Interview:

· Consideration is given equally to applicants with a passing NTN test score of 70% or greater. The number of applicants invited to interview is determined based on the number of vacancies.

· Interview is scored on a pass/fail basis.

· Tentatively scheduled for June 2025 via Teams.

Round 2 Interview:

· Candidates passing the Round 1 interview may be invited to the Round 2 interview.

· Passing score: 70%.

· Weight: 100%.

· Tentatively scheduled for late June 2025 in person.
